A-Z UPDATE

powerfulwomenreaders

The A-Z Challenge, one I resumed in January, starting with the letter “N,” continues. In January, I read Nightbird, a YA novel with Hoffman’s touch of the supernatural, and The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jamisin, described by Brainfluff’s blogger as a “mashup of both fantasy and sci-fi. Jamisin’s novel is the second in the “Broken Earth” series, which describes the “way the world ends …for the last time.”  The book begins with the ash falling, the sky darkening as the cold and darkness approach. “Essun–once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger–has found shelter” inside the earth. She has not, however, found her daughter Nassun, who was taken away by her father after he had bludgeoned to death her younger brother. Why We Wait for Rain by Luanne Castle

Red River Review

We wait for hours watching the dark unfurling
toward us, unsure
if it will land here at all
whether it carries thunderstorm or haboob
It smells like rain
bittersweet cocktail of sandstone & blossoms
still damp and quickening in the air
over ten thousand years
It’s why we wait for rain
tornadoes of dust don’t set off the scent
a drizzle dampening its branches
awakens the languishing senses
We wait to run through wet branches and shake
drops from our shoulders, caught
in the sharp unmistakable fragrance
wanting it to pool inside us in reservoir

cutie-pie

unbolt me

4oz salted curiosity
softened at room temperature…

love’s a recipe
for pie to be sliced and et
yeah, screw the waistline

2oz stealthy effervescent looks…

i could refuse it
or have one heavenly piece
two or even three

2 free-range thoughts lightly beaten…

i wanna eat what i may
i wanna love who i love
i wanna feed my lovetooth

4oz self-raising affection…

the choice must be mine
none can force me to partake
to gorge less or more

1 tsp dreams extract…

come away with me
feast across life’s smorgasbord
this banquet is free

a few drops courage…

i wanna eat who i may
i wanna love what i love
i wanna feed my lovetooth

4oz sugar puff lips…
